The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah State Office has initiated a 30-day public comment period to gather feedback on its plans to include 14 oil and gas leases, covering 19,704 acres, in a sale slated for September 2025. The public comment period, which will run until June 6, 2025, follows the completion of scoping on these parcels by the BLM in March 2025. The bureau is seeking public input on the parcels, potential deferrals, and the associated environmental analysis.

Leasing is the first phase in the process to exploit federal oil and gas resources. Before any development operations can commence, operators must submit an application detailing their development plans for a permit to drill. The BLM reviews these applications, posts them for public scrutiny, conducts an environmental analysis, and liaises with state partners and stakeholders.

All parcels incorporated in a federal oil and gas lease sale include appropriate stipulations to safeguard crucial natural resources. Details on present and upcoming BLM leases can be accessed through the National Fluid Lease Sale System. BLM lease sales are conducted online via EnergyNet. The parcels that the BLM is examining, along with maps and instructions on how to comment, can be found on the BLM’s National NEPA Register Project Page.
