The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah State Office has leased two parcels of land, totaling 834 acres, for $317,158 in its quarterly oil and gas lease sale. The revenue generated from the combined bonus bids and rentals will be shared between the federal government and the State of Utah. The leases are part of the BLM’s efforts to support domestic energy production and American energy independence, contributing to the country’s economic and military security.

The BLM’s lease sales are in line with Executive Order 14154, “Unleashing American Energy,” and aim to meet the energy needs of U.S. citizens. This initiative also seeks to establish the nation as a long-term global energy leader. These leases represent the first step in the process to develop federal oil and gas resources, with the BLM ensuring that development meets the requirements set forth by the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and other relevant legal authorities.

Oil and gas leases are awarded for a term of 10 years and can be extended as long as there is production of oil and gas in paying quantities. The federal government receives a royalty of 16.67 percent of the value of production. Information on current and upcoming BLM leases is available through the National Fluid Lease Sale System, with lease sales being held online through EnergyNet.
