“Lahontan Reservoir Under Advisory as Harmful Algal Bloom Looms”

Lahontan Reservoir, situated in the Lahontan State Recreation Area, is currently under a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Watch Advisory due to the presence of an active harmful algae bloom. The alert was issued following visual and satellite imagery assessments which showed signs of a potential bloom.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is currently conducting water tests to confirm the presence and extent of the toxic algae. The exact nature of the bloom, including its potential impact on local ecosystems and human health, will be determined by these tests.

Harmful Algal Blooms are known for their negative impacts on water quality, aquatic life, and human health. The advisory is a warning to residents and visitors to the area to be cautious around the reservoir until further notice.
