“Cedar City Field Office Halts RMP Preparation: Future of Public Land Management in Balance”

June 21, 2025by Ranger Tom0
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced the cancellation and termination of the preparation of a Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Cedar City Field Office. The BLM, which manages approximately 245 million acres of public land primarily in 12 western states including Alaska, has the mission to maintain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

In addition to the surface land, the BLM also administers a sub-surface mineral estate that spans 700 million acres across the nation. The agency’s responsibilities involve ensuring the sustainable use of these resources while preserving the ecological health and diversity of the lands.

The specific reasons for the termination of the RMP for Cedar City Field Office were not detailed in the announcement. The RMPs typically provide a framework for the use and protection of resources on public lands, including guidelines for mineral extraction, land use planning, and wildlife conservation. The cancellation of this plan may have implications for the management and use of the public lands under the jurisdiction of the Cedar City Field Office.
