The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is set to commence the Fiscal Year 2025 Maverick-Medicine Herd Management Area (HMA) and Wood Hills area emergency wild horse gather. This move is part of the BLM’s mission to maintain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

The BLM oversees approximately 245 million acres of public land, primarily situated in 12 western states, including Alaska. This land is managed on behalf of the American citizens. The agency is also responsible for administering 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate across the nation.

This initiative is part of the BLM’s ongoing efforts to manage and protect wild horse populations and the ecosystems they inhabit. The Maverick-Medicine HMA and Wood Hills area are of particular focus due to the urgent need for intervention to ensure the wellbeing of the wild horses and the sustainability of the land they occupy.
