“BLM Colorado Lifts Public Land Closure Following Lee Fire”

August 23, 2025by Ranger Tom0
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Colorado has withdrawn its public land closure order related to the Lee Fire. Previously, the BLM had issued an order to close off certain areas of public land due to the fire, which was seen as a necessary measure to protect both the land and the public.

The BLM is responsible for managing approximately 245 million acres of public land, primarily located in 12 western states, including Alaska. This management is done on behalf of the American people, with the aim of sustaining the health, diversity, and productivity of these lands for both current and future generations to use and enjoy.

In addition to the surface land, the BLM also administers around 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate across the nation. The decision to rescind the closure order for the Lee Fire indicates that the threat has been sufficiently dealt with, allowing for public access to the land once again.
