In addition to surface land, the BLM also administers around 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The sale of the 31-acre parcel is part of the BLM’s land management responsibilities.

Details regarding the sale, including the price and the intended use of the land by Mesa County, have not been disclosed. The BLM’s land management program is guided by public input and actions, which aim to balance the needs of the environment and the public’s use of these lands.
