“BLM Announces Competitive Coal Lease Sale to Boost National Energy Security and Local Economy”

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is set to offer a competitive lease for approximately 120 acres of land near Skyline Mine in Emery County, Utah. The area, known as the Little Eccles Tract, contains an estimated 1.29 million tons of recoverable federal coal. This move is in line with Executive Order 14241, which aims to reinvigorate America’s clean coal industry. The lease application was submitted by Canyon Fuel Company, LLC, which has been operating the Skyline Mine since 1981.

According to Christina Price, BLM Utah’s deputy state director for lands and minerals, the project will strengthen national energy security and boost the local economy. The BLM is committed to providing Americans with an affordable supply of domestic energy, she added.

Sealed bids for the lease must be sent via certified mail or hand-delivered to the BLM Utah State Office. Hand-delivered bids will be accepted between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, with all bids required to be received on or before 11:00 a.m. MT on October 1, 2025. Any bids received after this deadline will not be considered. The lease sale will take place at 1:00 p.m. MT on the same day.
