Via Ferrata is a type of protected climbing route, and this new parking area will support increased public access to these outdoor recreational opportunities. The decision is also in line with BLM’s commitment to managing public lands for a variety of uses, which includes outdoor recreation.

In addition to surface land management, the BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. This decision reflects the BLM’s ongoing efforts to balance preservation of natural resources with public use and enjoyment.
