Mormon Station State Historic Park in Nevada is expanding its boundaries with the acquisition of the historic Kinsey Property. Located adjacent to the park’s eastern boundary, the 1.36-acre property includes the three-story brick Kinsey House, one of the oldest standing homes in Nevada. The house, built between 1855 and 1856, is a significant architectural landmark in the state.

The Kinsey House was constructed for Stephen and Sarah Kinsey and is a rare example of gable-front, side-hall Greek Revival architecture in Nevada. This style of architecture is uncommon in the state, making the property a significant historical and architectural acquisition for the park.

Stephen Kinsey, the original owner of the house, was a nephew of John Reese, the founder of the original Mormon Station trading post in 1851. Kinsey was one of the early settlers in Carson Valley and played a pivotal role in establishing Nevada’s first permanent non-Native settlement. The acquisition of his property further enriches the historical value of the Mormon Station State Historic Park.
