The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is conducting a firefighter training day in Water Canyon. The BLM is responsible for managing over 245 million acres of public land, primarily located in 12 western states, including Alaska. This land management is carried out on behalf of the American people and is aimed at sustaining the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s public lands.

In addition to the above-ground land, the BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the U.S. This stewardship involves ensuring the responsible use and protection of these resources, in line with the agency’s mission.
The firefighter training day is part of the BLM’s ongoing efforts to prepare for and combat wildfires, which are a significant threat to the lands under its management. The event is designed to equip firefighters with the skills and knowledge necessary to protect these public lands for the use and enjoyment of current and future generations.
