This decision allows for commercial activities on the river, which could include guided river tours. The move is expected to boost local tourism and provide new business opportunities, while also ensuring the continued preservation and sustainable use of this public resource.

The BLM also manages 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate across the nation. This new approval for commercial river guiding on the Dolores River is an example of the BLM’s ongoing efforts to balance the use and conservation of public lands and resources.
