“BLM to Boost Forest Health with 1.1M Board Feet Timber Sale in Gunnison”
Starting January 15, 2026, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will open a sealed bid timber sale in Gunnison, Colorado. The sale will offer 1.1 million board feet of primarily thinned Douglas fir, spread over 808 acres of forest lands. The initiative, known as the West Fork Ridgeline Timber Sale, aims to reduce wildfire threats in the area and improve overall forest health.
Rob Potts, the acting Southwest District manager, stated that the BLM is committed to promoting increased timber production and sound forest management. He emphasized the importance of maximizing provisions under the BLM’s Good Neighbor Authority. According to Potts, timber production supports forest management and projects that reduce wildfire risk, which in turn can save lives and communities.
The BLM has set a deadline for receiving sealed bids. They must be delivered to Forester Ken Smothers at the Bureau of Land Management, 2500 East New York Avenue, Gunnison, CO 81230, by 10 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time on January 29, 2026. Any bids received after this time will not be accepted. More information on the sealed bid requirements can be found on the BLM’s timber sales website.
