“BLM Sets Controlled Burns to Boost Health, Diversity of Southeast Colorado Lands”
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning to conduct prescribed burns in Southeastern Colorado. BLM, an agency that manages approximately 245 million acres of public land primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, is undertaking the burns as part of its mission to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands. The agency also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
The prescribed burns are a management tool used to reduce the risk of larger, uncontrolled wildfires, improve wildlife habitat, and promote the growth of native vegetation. By carefully planning and controlling these fires, BLM aims to benefit the ecosystem and ensure the safety of local communities.
This initiative aligns with BLM’s commitment to ensuring the use and enjoyment of America’s public lands for present and future generations. The agency continues to work on behalf of the American people to maintain the health and diversity of these lands.
