“Nevada Communities Urged to Seek Fire Mitigation Funds”
Nevada communities have been invited to apply for fire mitigation funding in an effort to better manage and protect the 245 million acres of public land overseen by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM, which also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the United States, is primarily responsible for the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands.
The funding is aimed at supporting fire mitigation efforts in Nevada, one of the 12 western states where most of the BLM-managed land is located. Fire mitigation measures can include a variety of strategies, such as creating defensible space around structures, thinning vegetation, and implementing prescribed burns to reduce the amount of burnable material.
This initiative is part of the BLM’s mission to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. By inviting communities to apply for fire mitigation funding, the BLM is encouraging proactive measures to prevent wildfires and protect the public lands that many people rely on for recreation and livelihood.
