“Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Lifted, Stage 1 Implemented by BLM Kremmling Field Office”
The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Kremmling Field Office has announced an end to Stage 2 fire restrictions and the implementation of Stage 1 fire restrictions. This change in policy affects the 245 million acres of public land that the BLM manages, primarily located in 12 western states including Alaska.
The BLM’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for both current and future generations. As such, the fire restrictions are implemented as a means to protect these lands from damaging wildfires.
In addition to the surface land, the BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The fire restrictions also serve to protect these valuable resources. The transition from Stage 2 to Stage 1 restrictions indicates a decrease in perceived fire risk, though some limitations on fire use will remain in place under the Stage 1 rules.
