Bureau of Land Management

“Wild Horses and Burros Up for Adoption in Colorado’s BLM Event on Oct. 17”

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Colorado is offering wild horses and burros for adoption in Cañon City on October 17. The BLM is responsible for the management of about 245 million acres of public land, primarily located in 12 western states including Alaska. The agency’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

In addition to its land management responsibilities, the BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The adoption event in Cañon City is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to manage and protect wild horse and burro populations on public lands.

The adoption program provides an opportunity for individuals to care for and protect these wild animals. More details about the event can be found on the BLM’s official website.
